HOLY LAND SAMPLE TOUR ITINERARY

DAY 1: ARRIVAL DAY

Arrive at Ben Gurion Airport.  After going through passport control, you will pick up your luggage and head outside the airport, where you will be met by your guide.  Drive along the coastal highway to Nazareth for dinner and overnight.

DAY 2: Tiberias/Sea of Galilee

TiberiasAfter breakfast, drive to Cana to visit the Wedding Church.  From there, continue to Tiberias to the Mount of Beatitudes, where Jesus delivered his “sermon on the Mount”, then on to the site of the Multiplication of Fish and Bread (Tabgha).  The Miracle is depicted on one of the most beautiful mosaic floors in the Holy Land.  Walk to the Church of the Primacy (Mensa Christi).  Continue to Capernaum and the surrounding area.  The excavations here reveal that there was once a synagogue and Peter’s house. After lunch, take a round-trip boat ride across the Sea of Galilee and have a closer inspection of the Holy Sites from the sea.

DAY 3: Nazareth/Mount Tabor/Haifa/Bethlehem

This morning, celebrate Mass at the Church of the Annunciation. Visit the church, the remains of Joseph’s and Mary’s home, and Joseph’s workshop. Continue to Mt. Tabor, believed to be the place of Jesus’ transfiguration, and take taxis up the winding mountain to reach the church.  We drive to Bethlehem via Haifa, stopping at Stella Maris and the Cave of Elijah.

DAY 4: JERUSALEM, MT. OF OLIVES/GARDEN OF GETHSEMANE/OLD CITY

Today we explore Jerusalem, driving around the Old City walls and noting the city gates. Then up to the top of the Mount of Olives for a spectacular view of the city. We walk down Palm Sunday Road to the beautiful Garden of Gethsemane, stopping along the way at the place where Jesus wept over Jerusalem (Dominus Flevit).  Today we celebrate Mass at the Church of Gethsemane.  We then walk up to St. Stephen’s Gate to start a walking tour of the Old City, starting with the Church of St. Anne on the Via Dolorosa (Way of the Cross), the Chapel of the Flagellation, and the Chapel of the Condemnation, which contains the Lithostrotos, which was Pilate’s court.  View Ecce Homo Arch. Continue to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, built over the site of the Crucifixion of Christ and the Tomb of Jesus.  Lunch in the Old City

DAY 5: BETHLEHEM/BEIT SAHOUR/ISRAEL MUSEUM

This morning, visit the Basilica of the Nativity and the Church of St. Catherine (where you will celebrate Mass).  Visit the Milk Grotto.  Continue to visit Shepherd’s Field.  Afternoon visit to the Israel Museum to visit the Shrine of the Book and take a look at the Model of Jerusalem

DAY 6: Jaffa/Ein Karem

This morning, drive to Jaffa to visit the Church of St. Peter and celebrate Mass.  From there, drive back to Jerusalem via Ein Karem to visit the house of St. John the Baptist and the Church of Visitation, where the Virgin Mary visited her cousin Elizabeth.

DAY 7: Baptism Site/Qumaran/DEAD SEA/Jericho

This morning, we go down to Jordan to visit the baptismal site.  Mass at the site.  Drive to Qumran to visit the caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found, and then head to the Dead Sea for a float.  Continue to Jericho for lunch.  View Zacchaeus' sycamore tree and the Mount of Temptations, where the devil tried to tempt Jesus for 40 days, after lunch.

DAY 8: Old City

JerusalemVisit the Courtyard of the Dome of the Rock (entrance is only permitted to the courtyard and not the actual mosque).  Walk along the Cardo and the Jewish Quarter and visit the Wailing Wall.  Exit from Zion Gate to visit the Dormition Abbey, the Cenacle (where you will celebrate MASS), and St. Peter in Galicantu (the probable site of the House of Caiaphas, where Jesus spent the night of Holy Thursday alone after being denied three times by Peter before the Cock crowed twice).

DAY 9: Free

free, either in Jerusalem or Bethlehem.  Farewell dinner in a restaurant in Bethlehem  Overnight at the hotel  You will have the bus take you to Jerusalem and return you at certain hours.

DAY 10: DEPARTURE
